New Baby Gifts!

New Baby Gifts!!

New baby gifts for a girl at work can't believe how cute they turned out!!!
Originally I wanted to make this elephant that I saw online but since I don't knit (like at all) I knew there had to be some other way of making it. So I took an old sweater that I got at a thrift store and wallah!!! I think he turned out so good that I barely wanted to give him away.
The quilt was made from 6 different fat quarters and I was very pleased on the way it turned out.

Making Crib Rail Covers with snaps!! While She Sleeps!

Most people know that when you have a baby everything changes. Even though I said, "oh nothing will change!" yeah right. So since our little one is now 6 months old (almost 7, so sad) she has decided to surpass crawling and go straight to pulling up and trying to walk. We are super proud of our little one but since she has two chompers so far on the bottom we have noticed that she loves to stand at her crib and what does she do.... CHEWS THE WOOD AND PAINT!! So to make it safe for her because obviously we are just now trying to teach her the word no, I decided to make her a crib rail cover using snaps instead of ribbon!!! And yes that is her sleeping for her morning nap because as I was trying to say earlier, sleeping is the only time I get to make anything anymore!!!
All I did was measure the crib rail (of course) and I actually had a piece of scrap from her sheet that I made that was the perfect size. It was about 6 to 7 inches wide and I think 52 or 56 inches long. I took a scrap piece of batting and fleece for the back. I sewed right sides together, turned them right side out and sewed it shut. I decided i wanted it quilted so I sewed lines every inch to inch and half across the whole piece and then sewed 3 longs lines down the width of the cover. After that I took my wonderful inheritance of snaps that I have from my amazing grandmother and put a snap in every other rail, I believe there is 8 snaps. I was thrilled with the way it turned out and little Lou loves it!! However, now she has decided to teach herself to walk towards the end of her bed and now she chews on that one!!! So what does that mean... yeap next nap I will be making one for the end rail!!

Sweet little baby sleeping, love her!!
I promise that next time I will take better pictures!!

Also if anyone would like me to make them some crib rail covers please let me know I would love to!!!

Tea Dying Alencon Lace!!

So one of the projects that I am doing for this wedding is the brides veil. It's supposed to be some what of a deep ivory to match her dress. However the tulle matches perfectly but when I got the alencon lace that I ordered, the lady said it was ivory but it was no where near the color I needed. So instead of sending it back which was not an option, and the fact that I would never be able to find this pattern ever again, I decided to DYE IT!!!
This process was so simple I didn't even need to take pictures (granted I have done it before but not with this kind of lace)!!
I got the largest cooking pot that I had, filled it with about 10 cups of water, brought that to a boil and then steeped two large family size tea bags ( I used Lipton's but only cause I didn't want to use my Luzianne that we always drink ha ha) for about 5 to 7 minutes. I took the the tea bags out and put the tea in the fridge. My patience was non existence, so after about 30 minutes I added a whole tray of ice cubes let that sit and then finally it was about room temperature. I had two pieces of alencon lace that were 58" long. I took the tip of one end and tested it first, when I felt that I got the desired color when holding it next to the dress, I took a dip breath and dyed the rest of the lace. I dipped each 58" piece twice, letting it sit in the tea for about 30 to 45 seconds, and then rinsing each piece in cold water after each dip. I laid them out on a towel, pat dried each piece and hung over the shower rod to finish air drying, (after making sure the color matched the dress). Even after the lace fully dried the color was perfect!!! I was so happy and excited! Here is a finished picture of the Alencon Lace with the dress!
